Marseille have completed the signing of Red Bull Salzburg defender Duje Caleta-Car, who had been strongly linked with a move to Sevilla.
The 21-year-old has already played 130 games for Salzburg and was called up to Croatia’s World Cup squad.
“Red Bull Salzburg and OM have reached an agreement for the transfer of Duje Caleta-Car, who signs today having spent completed successful medical exams,” read a Marseille statement on Friday.
El Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this month that the central defender has been prioritised by Los Rojiblancos to replace Clement Lenglet, who has now signed for Barcelona.
Marca say the Andalusian club thought they had a €15m sown up but the French giants gazumped the bid, with the deal reportedly worth €20m.
Sevilla have already completed the signings of midfielders Ibrahim Amadou and Roque Mesa, while also signing Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik.
