Madrid plan Hazard, Courtois signings

Real Madrid want to sign Chelsea pair and Belgian internationals Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard (pictured) this summer, say reports.

A number of Spanish media outlets have cited Belgian publication HLN, which says that the Bernabeu is the expected destination for both players this summer, but the West London club are reluctant to sell.

Hazard is said to be valued at a staggering €225m – a world record fee – while Courtois, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in one year’s time, is valued at €30m. Both valuations are said to be an attempted deterrent for any suitors.

Playmaker Hazard is also said to be wanted by Barcelona but he would prefer a move to the European champions, who also have a sizable budget following the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo while the Blaugrana have been priced out of a move.

Hazard is a known admirer of former Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, while his father claimed he was pursuing a move to the European champions, with his Chelsea contract set to expire in 2020.

“After six wonderful years at Chelsea, it might be time to try something new,” he said after Belgium’s World Cup third-place playoff against England on Saturday, which his country won 2-0.

“After this World Cup, I can decide whether I want to stay or leave, but Chelsea will make the final decision, if they let me go.

“You already know my favourite destination. I’ve been linked with every club. It’ll be Bayern Munich next week…

“It makes me laugh. You already know my preference.”

Both players excelled during this summer’s World Cup, with Courtois winning the Golden Gloves award.
