Real Betis will not exceed their offer of €15m plus variables for Sporting CP midfielder and Portugal international William Carvalho, according to reports.
Numerous Spanish media outlets cite Portuguese daily Record that Los Verdiblancos have made a move for the central midfielder.
Marca say the Seville-based club will not exceed their initial offer and whilst they are hopeful there has been no agreement in talks with intermediary Pere Guardiola.
Carvalho is one of a host of players at Sporting to attempt to cancel their contracts but a compensation package is expected to be due for the Portugal international.
The 26-year-old would fill a void left by the outgoing Fabian Ruiz and provide competition for Javi Garcia in the holding midfield role.
The Portuguese club are in crisis, with controversial President Bruno de Carvalho voted out by supporters.
He had appointed Sinisa Mihajlovic as Coach, but the Serbian was sacked after just nine days with mass change across the Lisbon-based club.
