Hazard ‘Madrid’s plan B’

Chelsea and Belgium ace Eden Hazard is reportedly Real Madrid’s ‘plan B’ if they cannot sign Neymar.

According to Marca, Neymar remains Madrid’s ‘great objective’ this summer, with his arrival made ‘more possible’ if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves for Juventus.

However, the sheer ‘difficulty’ of tempting Paris Saint-Germain into selling the former Barcelona attacker just a year into his €222m transfer would have prompted Los Blancos to look towards Hazard.

The newspaper highlights the 27-year-old’s ‘pace, dribbling, incisiveness, brilliance and more than five years’ experience at a big European club like Chelsea’, plus his World Cup campaign, which has put him on ‘an equal footing with the world elite’.

Los Merengues have signed several players on the back of their World Cup performances in the past, including Ronaldo, Fabio Cannavaro, Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.

Hazard joined Chelsea for €35m in the summer of 2012 and has gone on to score 89 goals and assist 75 in 300 appearances for the Blues, winning two Premier League titles and a Europa League.

However, the Belgian is a known admirer of former Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, while his father claimed he was pursuing a move to the European champions, with his Chelsea contract set to expire in 2020.
