Valencia confirm Gameiro talks

Valencia general director Mateu Alemany has confirmed the club have opened talks with Atletico Madrid over the transfer of Kevin Gameiro.

Alemany described Gameiro as ‘an interesting possibility’ following a number of reports within the Spanish media that the Frenchman would be on the move this summer.

The 31-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos from Sevilla in the summer of 2016 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team place in Diego Simeone’s side.

“Yes it is true we have started talks with Atletico Madrid about Gameiro,” Alemany told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“He is an accomplished striker and a very interesting possibility for us.”

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has found himself behind Antoine Griezmann and January signing Diego Costa in the pecking order, while Milan striker Nikola Kalinic is also due to arrive.

Fernando Torres has already left the club on a free transfer but Griezmann turned down the opportunity to join Barcelona.
