Pau Lopez admits he ‘did not have to think twice’ about joining Real Betis following the expiration of his contract at Espanyol.
The 23-year-old established himself as first choice shot-stopper at the RCDE Stadium last campaign, starting 28 of the club’s La Liga outings, but has now joined Betis on a free.
“From the very first moment that I heard Betis were following me and wanted me here, I had no doubts,” Lopez told official Betis media.
“Betis are a huge club who are respected by everyone and they have amazing fans, probably the best in all of Spain.
“When you experience the atmosphere and see how fans feel football here, you just want to be a part of that too.
“The Betis project at the moment is very exciting and I did not have to think twice.”
Lopez, who formed part of Spain’s Under-21 squad in the European Championships last year, is seen as the long-term replacement for Antonio Adan at the Seville-based club.
Adan is out of contract with Betis in 2019 while backup goalkeeper Dani Gimenez has joined Deportivo.
