Reported Villarreal and Valencia target Raul Albiol looks set to stay at Napoli after signing a new three-year deal at the club.
Last week, Diario AS stated the former Valencia defender fits the profile of what the Yellow Submarine require – an experienced central defender who can adapt to Spain quickly.
Discussions were said to have already taken place for the 32-year-old with the Europa League qualifiers hopeful of concluding a deal and triggering the defender’s €6m release clause.
However, the Serie A club have now confirmed the defender has renewed his deal until June 2021, although any new release clause is unclear.
Albiol, a former Spain international and also previously played for Real Madrid, is said to have received an offer from Chelsea but would have preferred a return to Spain but neither looks likely at this stage.
He joined Napoli in 2013 and has made 210 appearances at the San Paolo, winning a Coppa Italia in his first season.
