Aspas revels in ‘special moment’

Iago Aspas has reflected on his first World Cup goal as a ‘special moment’ as he salvaged a late draw for Spain against Morocco.

The Celta Vigo striker netted a smart backheel – which was initially given as offside before being overturned by VAR – to rescue a draw for La Roja and ensure they topped Group B.

“It was a really great moment for me, I was so happy,” Aspas is cited as saying by Marca.

“My family were all here in the stadium watching me and this was my first World Cup, so it was a special moment.

“It was also hugely important of course in terms of us winning the group but at the time, with Portugal winning, we were in real danger of going out.

“It is not only Spain who are struggling, but Argentina, Germany and Brazil too. We have not yet lost, do not forget.”
