Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has told Barcelona he wants to join them either this summer or next year, according to reports in Spain.
The 21-year-old (pictured, right) registered seven assists from 22 Eredivisie appearances this term and has been linked with a switch to the Camp Nou for several months.
The Catalan giants have, according to Diario Sport, been chasing the midfielder for some time and due to the exit of Andres Iniesta, their need for central midfielders has increased.
El Mundo Deportivo reported last week he wants to leave the Dutch club this summer and has cited Justin Kluivert’s move to Roma as being behind his desire for an exit.
The report states that the central midfielder is likely to cost the Blaugrana between €20-25m in a transfer fee, although Ajax will attempt to hold on to their star players this summer in a belief their value will increase.
