Spain Coach Fernando Hierro has reiterated everyone has ‘full confidence’ in goalkeeper David De Gea following his error against Portugal.
The Manchester United goalkeeper’s error allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to score his second in a 3-3 draw on Friday night, but Hierro insists De Gea will retain his place in the team.
“I see David as being very calm and he has all our confidence in full,” Hierro told reporters on Monday, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.
“Players need confidence and support at all times and my decision is very clear, and I will be fair with every players.
“The squad has had a day off and that helped David relax and step away, because we are more interested with natural methods in our preparations, making sure we get our heads right.
“Diego Costa starting? There is always a debate and this one is continuous, if it was not with a striker, it would be a defender or midfielder.
“Pique’s international future? It is very personal, it is better not to get involved, it is still early.”
