Celta: Wass can go, Jonny stays

Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino confirmed the club will sell Daniel Wass (pictured) while they rejected Atletico Madrid’s offer for defender Jonny Castro.

Wass, a Danish midfielder who is out of contract next summer, is a reported transfer target for Valencia while full-back Jonny has attracted attention from a range of clubs.

“We have decided not to renew the contract of Daniel Wass,” Mourino told Radio Marca on Thursday.

“We do not negotiate when players only renew if they do not find other clubs. If a player wants to stay at Celta, they must show us commitment but if we are second choice, forget it.

“We have received an offer from Atletico Madrid for Jonny but we rejected it, he is a player we wish to keep.

“Aspas? If a club pays his clause, he will go, but if they do not then he will stay here. It is simple and the same for any player.

“Borja Iglesias? He has shown a high level of commitment and will complete pre-season with us, at least.

“We will aim to make four or five new signings this summer.”
