Saint-Etienne approach Gameiro

Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro is wanted by Saint-Etienne Coach Jean-Louis Gasset but the forward would prefer to stay in Spain, say reports.

A report in L’Equipe states the French forward has been approached by the Ligue 1 club, but he would rather remain in La Liga and play for a Champions League club.

The 31-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos from Sevilla in the summer of 2016 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team place in Diego Simeone’s side.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has found himself behind Antoine Griezmann and January signing Diego Costa in the pecking order, while earlier this week Le Progres now reporting he could be on the move to Lyon.

Gameiro has netted 27 goals across his two seasons with Atleti but only started in 11 La Liga matches this campaign.

Fernando Torres has already left the club on a free transfer while Griezmann has been linked with a move to Barcelona.
