Hierro in frame for Madrid job

Former Real Madrid captain and assistant Coach Fernando Hierro has joined the shortlist to become the club’s new Coach, say reports in Spain.

Madrid have reportedly been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino while Germany boss Joachim Low has also ruled himself out of the running.

Diario AS now say Hierro, who scored 127 times in over 600 appearances during a distinguished playing career at Los Blancos, is in the running.

The former Madrid captain has one season of managerial experience having coached La Liga 123 side Real Oviedo in the 2016-17 but left a year ago following a mid-table finish.

Madrid Juvenil Coach Guti – a former teammate of Hierro’s – is also said to be in the frame alongside former Malaga boss Michel, who previously played at the Bernabeu.
