New Athletic Bilbao Coach Eduardo Berizzo believes it is important for him to ‘understand the values of the club’ following his appointment.
The Argentine has replaced Jose Angel Ziganda in the San Mames hot-seat and faces a challenge to return the club to competing in European football.
“For me, this job is an honour and I am very excited,” Berizzo told reporters on Thursday.
“My role is to defend the values this club has, to exercise the passion that this job demands and also appreciate the confidence shown in me by the directors.
“My challenge is to make this club better, to discover a playing style that will help us win matches and thus achieve our objectives.
“The Basque Country is different of course and I will try to learn Euskera, I want to identify with this club in every possible way.
“Understanding the club’s philosophy is important and I will try to understand everything surrounding this team, the wonderful stadium and of course the city of Bilbao.”
