Casillas ‘sure’ of future Madrid return

Former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas believes he will return to the club one day in the future once his playing career is over.

The current Porto goalkeeper left the Bernabeu in 2015 after making 725 first-team appearances at his boyhood club.

“I envisage myself back at Real Madrid in the future,” Casillas told a media event in Madrid, as cited by Diario AS.

“Whenever I am back here (in Madrid) I go to the stadium as a supporter, but I have spent so much of my life there that I know I will be back.

“I still feel associated with the club and should an offer come up down the line whenever my playing career is over, it would be something I could not say not to.”

Casillas recently renewed his contract at Porto by a further year, despite a lot of speculation he would leave the club.

“The fans were crucial in my decision to stay,” he added.

“A year from now I will need to evaluate my future but for now I’m staying.”
