Berizzo set for Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao will appoint former Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo as their new Coach with an announcement expected on Thursday, say reports in Spain.

Cadena Cope report the Argentine has chosen by the Basque giants to replace Jose Angel Ziganda, who left his role at the end of the campaign.

The 48-year-old was dismissed from his role at Sevilla back in December, despite guiding them to the knockout stages of the Champions League and 28 points from 17 La Liga matches.

Berizzo, who was recovering from prostate cancer at the time of his sacking, is now set to be the new man in the hot seat at San Mames.

The Basque giants are said to view the former Celta Vigo Coach as the ideal candidate to rekindle the approach of former tactician Marcelo Bielsa, who previously managed Athletic.

Ziganda, a former Bilbao Athletic Coach, replaced Barcelona-bound Ernesto Valverde in the position last summer, when Berizzo was reportedly a candidate before opting for Sevilla.
