Depor confident on Valverde stay

Deportivo are hopeful of renewing the loan deal of Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde despite the club’s relegation from La Liga.

The Galician club’s sporting director, Carmelo del Pozo, reiterated his belief that the Uruguayan, who joined Madrid from Penarol in a €5m deal three years ago, could stay at the Riazor.

“The idea for us is to have 22 players who are fully committed to the Deportivo cause for next season,” Del Pozo told reporters, as cited by the official Deportivo website.

“Federico has told us in private conversations that he would want to stay on with us next season, and he has made similar comments in the press.

“He will have been disappointed with his performances last season because of the potential he has, but that is the same with all the players at our club.

“Our desire is to maintain him in our ranks, but we need to talk to Real Madrid and respect their ideas on the situation too.”
