‘Neymar & Cavani staying at PSG’

Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi insists Neymar and Edinson Cavani will not be joining Real Madrid or Atletico this summer.

Neymar had been heavily linked with Madrid after reportedly becoming disillusioned with life in Ligue 1, while Cavani was put forward as a possible replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

However, PSG chief Al-Khelaifi told L’Equipe: “Neymar? I’ve repeated myself 10,000 times already.

“He’s going to stay at PSG. Neymar’s tired of the rumours about his future. His father told me that his future is in Paris. It’s the Spanish media that are saying otherwise. If you believe them then that’s too bad.

“Cavani? Not only does have two more years left on his contract, but he’s also happy. He’s a great player, a fighter, the top scorer in the club’s history.”

The Qatari then reflected on Unai Emery’s two-year reign at Parc des Princes, which saw him win six trophies but suffer Champions League exits to Los Blancos and Barcelona.

“Emery? It’s unfair to say it’s his fault,” he added.

“He’s won seven trophies in two seasons. He achieved four in his second year, and for us it’s the third time in four years that’s happened.

“He’s done the best he could, he’s a gentleman and I wish him all the best for the future.”
