Ernesto Valverde has denied Luis Suarez’s claim that Barcelona are close to signing Antoine Griezmann. “He was speaking figuratively.”
Suarez appeared to confirm in the build-up to Sunday’s Clasico that Griezmann was on his way to Barca, but while Valverde made no secret of his admiration for the Atletico Madrid attacker, he played down talk of a done deal.
“I don’t know if Suarez knows something I don’t,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“I’m proud that we’ve signed players [of Griezmann’s quality], but I have no doubt that he [Suarez] was speaking figuratively. We’re all careful about what we say, and the same applies for our rivals.
“We’ve been linked with players who belong to other clubs throughout the season. [The Press] ask you about them so many times that sometimes you respond in one way and then in another.”
