Fiorentina will activate Pezzella deal

Central defender German Pezzella still looks set to complete a permanent move to Fiorentina despite celebrating Real Betis’s return to Europe, say reports.

The Argentine is on a season-long loan deal at La Viola, who Estadio Deportivo report have an €11m option to sign the defender on a permanent basis.

“Congratulations to Real Betis, what a great season,” wrote Pezzella on social media after Betis sealed their spot in the Europa League next campaign after beating Malaga.

“A big hug for everyone, you are all great. The successes will continue!”

The Argentine international joined Los Verdiblancos from River Plate in 2015 for €2.5m but is said to have failed to impress Coach Quique Setien, who sanctioned his exit last year.

Reports had suggested Atletico Madrid, Inter and Zenit Saint Petersburg all held a lingering interest in the central defender, with La Viola keen to tie down his services.

Such funds will allow Betis – who signed Marc Bartra from Borussia Dortmund in January – to continue to reinvest in their squad this summer.
