Marcelino: Valencia had anxiety

Valencia Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral has blamed ‘anxiety’ in seeking to clinch Champions League qualification for Sunday’s draw with Eibar.

Los Che have now gone four matches without a victory while Real Betis can still mathematically catch with Marcelino’s side, although such a scenario is unlikely.

“The anxiety to clinch qualification affected our performance,” Marcelino told reporters, as cited by Valencia club media.

“I am not concerned by this and I believe this standard of showing would be enough for us to win enough games, but against Celta last week it was the same.

“We created enough chances and enjoyed enough dominance to secure the three points and I am a little sad we could not today.

“We wanted to achieve the feat in front of our fans and the people who have supported us so well all-season long.

“Now we have two games away from home and we hope that in the first one we can mathematically confirm we will be in the Champions League next season.”
