Getafe moved above Sevilla into the final European qualification spot following Sunday’s draw with fellow Euro-hopefuls Girona.
Amath Ndiaye opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute but the match turned on it’s head before the break as the Catalan side equalised and Getafe were reduced to 10 men.
Damian Suarez was dismissed for the hosts and Cristhian Stuani netted from the resulting spot kick to level the tie on the stroke of half-time.
However, in a bad-tempered match – which saw 10 bookings on top of the red card – it was 10-man Getafe who had the best opportunity to win all three points.
Jorge Molina’s second half spot kick cannoned off the post – the club’s sixth penalty miss of the season.
Nonetheless, Los Azulones move into 7th – one point above Sevilla (who have a game in hand) and Girona.
