Montella: Sevilla still unlucky

An ‘angry’ Vincenzo Montella felt Sevilla did not have any ‘luck’ for the second weekend running after their 2-2 draw with Villarreal.

Pablo Sarabia and Ever Banega had penalty appeals waved away by the referee, forcing Sevilla to come back from 2-0 down against Villarreal, despite Nolito missing a spot-kick.

“I’m angry with how the match went,” the Coach said after the game, which marked the Andalusians’ sixth without a win in La Liga.

“in the first half, we should’ve had a penalty when we were on top and we went a man down when we were growing in the game.

“I don’t know what Ben [Yedder] said to see a red card. These are key moments, where we haven’t had any luck. It’s not the first time.

“When there’s doubt, it can be waved away, but when it’s clear, it’s clear. The referee was near Banega. I don’t get it.

“On the other hand, I’m happy because the team showed pride, strength and heart. It was an important draw for how it has been achieved. Now we must rest.

“The team played with the mental strength of a great team. We can still qualify for the Europa League and now we have to keep fighting.”
