‘Leganes practically safe, but…’

Asier Garitano believes Leganes are ‘practically safe’ after beating Celta Vigo but regrets them not building on their Real Madrid giant-killing in the Copa del Rey.

Miguel Angel Guerrero’s first goal since January seemingly secured Leganes’ place in La Liga for another season, while potentially killing off Celta’s hopes of European qualification.

“We’re practically safe, but we’re not satisfied with only that,” the Coach said after the game.

“I know how difficult it is to stay up with the best teams. We have to really appreciate it, although we must keep competing at the highest level until the end of the season.

“We had a very complete game, although it’s a shame that we found it so difficult to score the first goal. The victory was fair and everyone deserves credit.

“I’m very happy for [Guerrero], he worked incredibly well and earned the reward of his goal.

“We’ve achieved the objectives that we’ve set ourselves, we’ve achieved them with great success, but there’s the bad taste in my mouth of us not going further in the Copa. We could’ve achieved more.”
