Betis goalkeeper Adan out for the season

Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan will miss the remainder of the campaign due to requiring surgery on an ongoing injury.

The shot-stopper confirmed he has been playing with a pubic injury for months, meaning he will sit out the club’s final eight league games with Betis pushing for a European spot.

“My discomfort has increased and this is my only option,” Adan wrote in a statement, as cited by El Desmarque.

“I have been suffering from this for over three months and I cannot take it anymore, so on Thursday I will go into the operating room.

“I have carried this for months but this statement is to avoid any incorrect media speculation, as I have known for a long time that surgery was my only choice to remove the pain.

“The painkillers are no longer working as well and the injury is getting worse, so it is preferable that it is cured now rather than to wait any longer.

“It is frustrating for me that I can no longer help the team achieve its aim of European football, but I will be cheering on from the side lines and wish to thank everyone who has helped me.”
