‘Umtiti showed he loves Barca’

Barcelona’s head of PR Guillermo Amor believes Samuel Umtiti ‘loves’ the club after his badge-grabbing celebration against Roma.

Umtiti did not hold back when celebrating Kostas Manolas’ own goal, which the Frenchman initially appeared to have scored, and Amor felt the defender – a reported target for Manchester United – proved his commitment to Barca on Tuesday.

“It was a difficult game for us, but we still have to respect our opponents a lot because Roma aren’t dead and the tie is still alive,” the former Spain midfielder told Barca TV.

“We were clinical and the result was a good one, but they’re going to put pressure on us at their place.

“We’re very close [to the semi-finals], closer than Roma are, but we have to go calmly, with caution.

“We have to go to Roma, respecting them. If we can win there, that’s even better, but it’s not over yet.

“Umtiti’s celebration [grabbing his badge]? It’s his badge, it’s fine. Surely he loves the club a lot.

“It’s all good, he’s enjoying himself and hopefully he ends the season playing like he is.

“Suarez ending his drought? It was very important. It’s not the same going with a 3-1 than a 4-1.

“The 3-0 was a good result, but the 3-1 was good work on Roma’s part.”
