‘Spain are World Cup favourites’ – Costa

Diego Costa believes Spain should think of themselves as ‘favourites’ for the World Cup in Russia after beating Argentina 6-1 in a friendly.

The Atletico Madrid striker opened the scoring at his home stadium – as he made his first international start in over nine months.

“With the players that we have, we cannot say that Spain are not favourites,” Costa told Cadena Cope on Tuesday night.

“I want to be on the plane and will be trying everything to make it, but we have a lot of strikers pushing for places.

“We are the four (Costa, Rodrigo, Aspas and Morata) but maybe we all cannot go, but I want to help my country and it’s nice to play.

“Tonight’s result might be a little misleading as when Messi is not playing, it makes a difference but we were strong and we are happy.

“My injury? It’s just an impact injury, I’m all good and I’ll be ready to play on Saturday.”
