Lucas Vazquez is hopeful Barcelona star Lionel Messi plays for Argentina in Tuesday night’s friendly against Spain in Madrid.
There had been fitness doubts regarding the 30-year-old, who missed Friday night’s win over Italy, but he has now returned to full training with the national squad.
“Argentina have many great players and we want to face all of them,” Vazquez is cited as saying by Diario AS.
“We want Messi to play because he is one of the best players and we want to face the best players because we hope to do that at the World Cup.
“We know we are playing well and we believe we are on the right road to achieving our objectives and this friendly is important in that.
“Favourites for the World Cup? It is not worth talking about as there are many variables but of course we believe in our ability.”
