Vazquez keen to face Messi

Lucas Vazquez has expressed his desire to pit his wits against Lionel Messi when Spain play Argentina on Tuesday. “We always want to face the best…”

Messi is a doubt for the friendly at Wanda Metropolitano due to a hamstring strain, but Vazquez admits he is keen to showcase his ‘good run of form’ against his Barcelona rival.

“I’m in a good run of form, I’m enjoying myself and getting minutes. Those are the best things for a player,” said the Real Madrid winger at a Press conference.

“Favourites for the World Cup? We have to be realistic, we have a great national team with great players, but it’s not worth asking whether we’re favourites or not, only to work, know our qualities, work on team and reach the World Cup in the best way possible.

“Kroos? I talked to him, but we didn’t have time to look back on the game. Messi? He seems to be a doubt. We’ll see what happens, but we always want to face the best.

“If Messi plays, even better. Isco? He’s fine, training well and happy. I hope he stays like this for a long time and that we keep enjoying his football.”
