Italian league title contenders Napoli ‘made contact’ with Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez, according to the player’s agent.
The Naples-based club are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper with Pepe Reina’s expected imminent departure to Milan, while the out-of-contract Lopez has reportedly agreed a deal to join Real Betis in June.
“There was contact with Napoli,” Albert Botines told Radio Crc.
“I talked to [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli in confidence, and I can say that yes, [Napoli’s] interest was there.
“Napoli, being a big club, are looking to sign more than one goalkeeper for next season, and it would be an honour for Pau to wear their jersey.
“However, he’s still young and I don’t know how much Napoli would play him, although the deal with Betis hasn’t been finalised yet.
“Maybe when the lad is more mature, Napoli could be an option, also because I think they’ll go for a more experienced goalkeeper after Pepe Reina.”
