Miguel Angel Moya has written an open letter to Atletico Madrid fans after ending his three-and-a-half year association with the club.
The 33-year-old joined Real Sociedad this week following an injury to Gero Rulli, along with Tono Martinez’s unconvincing performance against Valencia last week.
“My daughter had tear-filled eyes and asked ‘Dad, why are you leaving Atleti?’” Moya wrote in an open letter to the club’s fans.
“It is difficult to explain to her or anyone in my family as this was an unexpected yet fantastic opportunity from a great club.
“This is a new challenge for me, it motivates me but it leaves behind hurt or what club I am leaving for this chance.
“I want to thank Atleti for such a wonderful opportunity and spell in my career, I have nothing but thanks and gratefulness for them.
“I was always supported and encouraged from the stands, but I wish Atletico Madrid all the best – thank you everyone, for now and forever!”
