Real Sociedad have officially signed goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya from Atletico Madrid on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

La Real have been given special dispensation to bring in Moya after Athletic Bilbao paid Inigo Martinez’s release clause at the end of January.

An injury to Gero Rulli, along with Tono Martinez’s unconvincing performance during the Basques’ 2-1 defeat to Valencia on Sunday, made the signing of a goalkeeper a priority.

A statement on La Real’s official website adds the 33-year-old has already passed a medical and will train with his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday.

Moya joined Atleti in the summer of 2014 and enjoyed No 1 status in his first half-season, until the emergence of Jan Oblak saw him demoted to second choice.

He is the third player to leave Los Colchoneros this month after Yannick Carrasco and Nico Gaitan, both of whom left for Chinese side Dalian Yifang.
