Zidane: Madrid have to value Asensio

Zinedine Zidane singled out Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez after Real Madrid won a ‘crazy game’ at Real Betis.

Asenio scored twice in a 5-3 comeback victory at Benito Villamarin and he and Lucas were picked out by the Coach when he spoke to reporters after the final whistle.

“I’m very happy. It’s a hard ground and a very good opponent. The result is very good. We started very well, then backed off. And when we do that, we’re not comfortable,” Zidane acknowledged, AS reports.

“We did very well in the second half, pushing up and running. With the quality we have we can put any opponent in difficulty. The second half was spectacular. We have to value the display of Asensio and Vazquez.

“Coming back means we have character and that we can change the game. We’re together, and when we do everything together it shows. It’s difficult for our opponent. That’s what happened in the second half. We have to rest now because we play [Leganes] on Wednesday. We’ll keep going.

“It was a crazy game, back and forth. I like it, because it means we played. Betis were fantastic and played very well. They controlled the last half-hour of the game. I was happy in the end. I’ll take the five goals.”

Zidane was asked to elaborate on Lucas and Asensio, two players who have been on the fringes of the Madrid team for much of the season.

“They always deserve more. When they play and do the dirty work, they do it with personality. They’re doing very well playing this way, knowing there is an opponent who can get us into difficulty. They did a very important job,” he explained, before touching on a possible injury problem for Marcelo.

“Hopefully it’ll be nothing. We’ll see him tomorrow. He’s said he feels like its small, but we’ll see in the next few days.”
