Alba: ‘Barca suffered for win’

Jordi Alba admits Barcelona had to ‘suffer a lot’ to run out 2-0 victors at Eibar this afternoon.

The left-back’s 88th minute goal secured the points for Ernesto Valverde’s team after Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the first-half.

Victory takes the Camp Nou side 10 points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga, but Alba acknowledged his side did not find life easy at Ipurua.

“Eibar are a very difficult team who know how to play and make it difficult for you,” the Spain international said.

“I am very happy with the goal and the win. It’s clear that we suffered a lot at the start of the match.”

Alba refused to get involved in the debate over a red card shown to Eibar’s Fabian Orellana for punching the ball away after a free-kick went against the hosts.

“Mendilibar was defending his player and I’m not going to get involved. That’s the referee’s job.

“After the sending off we had more calm, although they still pushed a lot.”
