The future of Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez remains uncertain but he is likely to join Real Betis this summer, according to reports in Spain.
The 23-year-old has established himself as first choice shot-stopper at the RCDE Stadium this campaign, starting 19 of the club’s La Liga outings, but is out of contract in June.
Los Verdiblancos have made him ‘a strong economic offer’ according to Diario Sport, with the player open to the move although he wants to see what counter-offer Espanyol come up with.
The report continues that a number of other clubs are also interested including Real Sociedad and Girona, but Betis remain favourite in the race.
Last week, Diario AS reported Los Verdiblancos vice president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer hasdbeen ‘working extensively’ to reach an agreement with the goalkeeper, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham.
Lopez, who formed part of Spain’s Under-21 squad in the European Championships last year, is seen as the long-term replacement for Antonio Adan at the Seville-based club.
Adan is out of contract with Betis in 2019 while backup goalkeeper Dani Gimenez, 35, is set to leave the club this summer when his contract expires.
