Valdano gives Zidane backing

Former Real Madrid manager Jorge Valdano has given his support to Zinedine Zidane but does not believe they can defeat Paris Saint-Germain.

The 62-year-old – who played and managed Los Blancos – believes Zidane’s calm approach and refusal to make significant changes is the right process.

“When result go against you and there’s talk of a crisis, it’s easy to make changes that will ultimately not work,” Valdano told an interview on BeIn’s La Liga channel.

“Many Coach’s in this situation would have radically changed things or upset players, yet Zidane has done the opposite and has stuck to his original ideas and principles – I believe correctly.

“I believe it is the right thing to stick with 4-3-3 and work on repeating what we achieved in the past few seasons to great success.

“There is no great discontent among our fans towards either the players or to the Coach, that is different than normal and shows their patience.

“PSG are definitely favourites for the match, Madrid have the weight of history but it would take me some time to work out how Madrid can win this tie.”
