Vincenzo Montella singled out Sergio Rico for praise after the goalkeeper played a key role in Sevilla’s 1-0 win against Girona on Sunday.
Rico saved a penalty from Aday Benitez towards the end of the first half, ensuring Pablo Sarabia’s finish immediately after the restart was enough for Sevilla to take all three points.
The stop was particularly notable, given the custodian’s confidence was shot only a week ago, when his blunder gifted Leganes a 1-1 draw in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
“We had several chances, Sarabia had a couple of them, but we’re happy because Sergio Rico helped us a lot to get the victory,” the Coach said after the game.
“I’m very happy for him, he helped us get the three points and now he’s going to play with more calmness.”
