Eibar sign Espanyol’s Diop

Eibar have completed the signing of Senegalese international midfielder Pape Diop after he cancelled his contract at Espanyol, it has been confirmed.

The 31-year-old has signed an 18-month contract with the Basque club after his departure from the RCDE Stadium, where he had spent two-and-a-half seasons.

The holding midfielder – who has also had stints at Gimnastic, Racing Santander and Levante – had only featured in five of the Catalan club’s La Liga fixtures this campaign.

Diop netted three goals in his 58 appearances for Espanyol and paid tribute to the club on an Instagram post.

“It’s hard to say goodbye to this family and it is one of the most difficult decisions in my career,” Diop wrote.

“It has been a privilege to play for this club and whilst I am excited for my new adventure, I am also sad to say goodbye.”
