Departing Vela nets in La Real win

Departing Mexican forward Carlos Vela came off the bench to score late on as Real Sociedad defeated Sevilla 3-1 at Anoeta.

The former Arsenal striker will join Los Angeles FC, and he turned home Inigo Martinez’s delivery towards the end as Sevilla missed out on the chance to climb into the top four.

Martinez had powered La Real into the lead after slack marking gifted him a free header inside the area, but the visitors hit back before half-time through Wissam Ben Yedder.

Igor Zubeldia’s deflected effort restored Eusebio Sacristan’s side lead in the 76th minute, before Vela ensured the Basques won their first match in five.

La Real climb to eighth in the standings, while Sevilla stay fifth.
