Diego Simeone believes Sime Vrsaljko’s time is ‘now’ after he assisted Atletico Madrid’s winning goal against Alaves on Saturday.
Vrsaljko took full advantage of a rare start for Atleti as his cross was turned in by Fernando Torres, and Simeone made it clear he wanted the right-back to ignore reported interest from Serie A in January.
“There’s a different energy, a much better defensive fortress in place,” the Coach said after his side’s 1-0 victory.
“The lads are willing to do everything that was seen before. They’re coming into the side and doing well.
“We have room for improvement, but we’ll see if we can keep improving next week.
“Torres? I think I give my players the time that they’re needed by the team. I think about the team, not individuals.
“Vrsaljko? He wasn’t playing, but now’s his time. He’s doing very well and he put in the cross for our goal. He’s very good and strong.
“The players are mine for as long as they’re here. I hope none of them leave.”
