Gremio boss ‘better than Ronaldo’

Gremio boss Renato Gaucho claims he was a ‘better’ player than Cristiano Ronaldo as the Real Madrid star “doesn’t have much influence outside the box.”

Renato was considered one of the best wingers in the world between the late 1980s and early 1990s and has been compared in playing style to Ronaldo by the likes of former Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari and ex-Selecao striker Zico.

“I still think I was better than Cristiano Ronaldo,” the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Saturday’s Club World Cup against Madrid.

“The Portuguese doesn’t have much influence on the game outside the box. I can’t compare myself to Zidane because we played in different positions.

“I’d like to have the calmness that the Frenchman has. I think he’s a good Coach and he’ll get better, although I’d like to have the team he has.

“For me, Zidane was a world champion and I wasn’t. Real Madrid are the favourites, but none of us think we’re going there to have a barbeque.”
