Ronaldo ‘very happy & proud’

Cristiano Ronaldo says he is “very happy and proud” of his Real Madrid career after becoming the Club World Cup’s all-time top goalscorer.

Ronaldo’s equaliser for Madrid in their 2-1 win against Al Jazira saw him surpass Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cesar Delgado for Club World Cup goals, just days after he clinched the fifth Ballon d’Or of his career.

“First of all, I’m very happy. It’s something that makes me proud, mainly because of the path I’ve taken at Madrid,” he told Real Madrid TV.

“Winning my fifth Ballon d’Or and now being the top scorer of the Club World Cup, for me, is motivation to keep working hard, with happiness and sacrifice.

“I’d also like to thank my teammates because without them, it would be impossible to win things, but the truth is that I’m very happy.

“I’ll keep fighting and making my fans and the people that follow Ronaldo happy. I’m very happy.”
