Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has admitted he always looks to find Lionel Messi whenever he receives the ball because ‘he is the best player ever’.
The Argentine forward netted the second goal for the Catalan giants in Sunday night’s 2-0 victory at ten-man Villarreal in a win which kept them five points clear at the top of La Liga.
Alba has assisted Messi five times in La Liga – more so than any other Barca player – and their chemistry was evident during the match at Estadio de la Ceramica.
“Whenever I have the ball, I always look to see where Messi is,” Alba is quoted as saying by Marca.
“He scores so many times, he is a very important player in our team and he is the best player in the history of football.
“This win was very important for us in our ambitions so we are extremely happy; we put a lot of work into this so the victory is pleasing.
“The Villarreal red card? I’m not sure if it was a yellow or red, it can be interpreted differently.”
