Carvajal handed ‘deliberate booking’ ban

Dani Carvajal has been handed an additional one-match Champions League suspension for being booked deliberately against APOEL Nicosia.

The full-back was charged by UEFA for “receiving a yellow card on purpose” which ruled him out of Madrid’s final group game against Borussia Dortmund this week, when his side had already qualified.

The Spain international was cautioned in the final minute of Zinedine Zidane’s side’s victory for time-wasting over a throw-in.

The 25-year-old faced the potential of an additional two-match ban, on top of missing the Dortmund clash, but he has received only half of that punishment.

“The Uefa control, ethics and disciplinary body has decide to suspend the Real Madrid CF player Dani Carvajal for two Uefa competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible,” read a statement.

“Given that Carvajal did not participate in the match Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund played on 6 December, 2017, the player still has to serve one Uefa competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible.”
