Former Sporting Gijon boss Abelardo Fernandez is the new favourite for the Alaves managerial position after Paco Jemez rejected an approach, say reports.
The Basque club are searching for their third permanent manager of the campaign after Gianni De Biasi was dismissed earlier this week as his side sunk to the foot of La Liga.
The 47-year-old was also in talks for the managerial position with El Glorioso in September after Luis Zubeldia’s sacking, but the former Albania boss De Biasi was afforded the role.
Marca report he is now favourite after Jemez rejected the opportunity, reportedly on the basis of wishing to spend more time with his family.
Abelardo has been without a job since ending his three-year stint at Sporting in January.
