Corchia: Sanchez Pizjuan a fortress

Sevilla’s Sebastien Corchia has explained their stadium is ‘a fortress’ and they are keen to show their 5-1 loss at Spartak Moscow was a ‘freak result’.

The 27-year-old was referencing the club’s unbeaten home record this calendar year and believes it can propel them to the last 16 of the Champions League.

“Our stadium is our fortress,” Corchia told an interview with Goal.com.

“The club have not lost here in all of 2017, and even as a new player I feel that we are invincible. It’s not as an arrogant feeling, but we truly believe that we will win every game we enter in our own stadium.

“We have this great feeling when we play in front of our supporters at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, and we work hard together with our supporters to achieve our victories and our ambitions.

“I knew before I signed that Sevilla fans are famous for great passion and support for the players, and they have been amazing.

“We want to show that the result in the first match in Moscow was a freak result, they scored with all of their shots on the night, and we actually controlled the game for a long time and felt pretty comfortable within our own game plan, but in the end we lost.

“They are a good team, of course, but at home obviously we must win.

“Before the group started, I expected Liverpool and ourselves to be equal and both go through. After our point at Anfield, we had the upper hand, but now it’s changed a bit and at this moment they are the favourites to win the group.

“But we can still do it and finish first, especially as we have our home match against Liverpool to look forward to. It’ll be a very different game at home. But right now we’re only focusing on our next game, and we have to win that against Spartak.

“It was a great night in our stadium with an incredible atmosphere, I felt very comfortable in the team and enjoyed the game.

“And it came after our 2-2 draw in the difficult away game at Anfield against Liverpool, so now we want to copy that win and get back into one of the two top spots, where we belong.”
