Diego Simeone is adamant Atletico Madrid’s style of play is not responsible for a recent run of below-par results and performances.
Tuesday’s draw with Qarabag left Los Rojiblancos on the brink of elimination from the Champions League group stages – where they have won none of their four matches.
“We always play in this way and it has been successful,” Simeone told reporters after the game.
“During my six years at the club, there have been 30 or 40 times we have won games like this. When that happens, you are praised for your spirit, hard work, and organisation.
“When you don’t win, it’s a different reaction.
“Recently we have been the team in the ascendancy looking to score and conceded against the run of play, but we have been aiming to win the game.
“Right now, we are arm wrestling with destiny but things are currently not going for us.
“We will try to beat Roma when they come here and in London (against Chelsea) but we will finish in the position we deserve, and we will know that by the end of the group.”
