Varane, Bale out of Spurs trip

Raphael Varane and Gareth Bale are among six absentees for Real Madrid’s midweek trip to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

The French defender and the former Spurs forward join Mateo Kovacic, Luca Zidane, Dani Carvajal and Keylor Navas in missing the visit to London and none are included in the 19-man squad.

24-year-old Varane was substituted off during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Girona with an unspecified muscle injury although Isco, who appeared to sustain a muscle injury in the game, has been included.

Nacho Fernandez, who replaced Varane at Estadi Montilivi, is likely to partner Sergio Ramos in the centre of defence for Zinedine Zidane’s side.

They are likely to be flanked in the back four by Marcelo and teenager Achraf Hakimi with Kiko Casilla as goalkeeper.

Real Madrid squad: Casilla, Moha, Achraf, Ramos, Nacho, Marcelo, Theo, Vallejo, Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, Asensio, Isco, Marcos Llorente, Ceballos, Ronaldo, Benzema, Lucas Vazquez, Mayoral
