Qarabag hold Atleti again, but…

Qarabag held Atletico Madrid to another stalemate in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Diego Simeone insists “fate isn’t being kind to us.”

Despite Qarabag having just three shots all game and going down to 10 men with half an hour still to play, Atleti’s only response was a long-range, Thomas Partey strike, before they lost Stefan Savic to two yellow cards.

The result marked Los Colchoneros’ third 1-1 draw in a row and needing to beat Roma to stand any chance of the knockout stages, but Simeone was adamant his side could not have done more against the Azeris.

“From a result perspective, it’s all excuses,” the Coach said after the game.

“However, I leave here with the feeling that the team did everything. Qarabag and their goalkeeper had a great game.

“The result wasn’t what we were looking for, but fate isn’t being kind to us and we’ll do everything to fight for the win.”
