Valverde wants long Depor stay

Federico Valverde is hopeful of staying at Deportivo La Coruna ‘for many years’ after joining the club on loan from Real Madrid this summer.

The Uruguayan international has started four league games for Pepe Mel’s side this season after joining Madrid from Penarol in a €5m deal in 2015.

“It was a big decision for me to decide to join Depor,” Valverde explained to La Voz de Galicia.

“My aim is to make the most of this opportunity but I am very happy and have adapted well and I hope, if Madrid agrees to it, that I can stay here for many more seasons.

“It is a massive step up from playing in Segunda B (with Madrid’s Castilla team) to playing in La Liga and you must keep your feet on the ground and working hard.

“Returning to Madrid? They have the best players in the world and are winning everything, so of course I am happy about that but I acknowledge it makes the situation more difficult for players like me.”

The 19-year-old represented Castilla in 30 matches last season and has impressed early on in his Riazor stint.
